1. Cognate:

  • description- Two or more people who are related by blood.
  • part of speech- adjective

  • sentance- Cognate siblings usually look a lot alike.

2. Derivative:

  • description- Something not original; something taken from one or more things.
  • part of speech- Noun
  • related words- by-product(s), descendant(s), original(a)
  • sentance- The English language is a derived language.

3. Diminutive:

  • description- something very small or tiny.
  • part of speech- Adjective
  • related words- little(s), petite(s), gigantic(a)
  • sentance- A family with only one child is a diminutive family.

4. Inflection:

  • descripton- changing the tone or pitch in your voice
  • part of speech- Noun
  • related words- variation(s), tone(s), enunciation(s)
  • sentance- The inflection in her voice was very irritating as she sang her song.

5. Orthography:

  • description- Representing a language by writing it down.
  • part of speech- Noun
  • related words- spelling(s), writing(s), words(s)
  • sentance- We use orthography in e-mails, letters and books.
