vocab week one.

1. Cognate- to be related or similar to another thing or person.
· Adj.
· Related words: s:associated, connected, equivalent
· Zack and I have a cognate relationship.

2. Derivative- something that’s come to be from other parts. They all came from the same place. To come up with
· Adj.
· Related words: imitative, unoriginal, copied
· The people in the world are derivative of cavemen

3. Diminutive- to be limited to something. To make smaller
· Adj.
· Related words: s: miniature, miniscule, little
· There was one diminutive mistake in the program.

4. Inflection- to make more clear, change at a certain point in the voice; in pitch or tone
· Noun
· Related words: s: modulation, intonation, tone
· The inflection of the cheerleaders was very distinctive.

5. Orthography- the correct term that matches the correct part in the sentence
· Noun
· Related words: spelling, grammar, punctuation
· We learned about orthography in English today.
