Vocab

Cognate-
1. Description- Being alike or similar in some way. For one thing's qualities or traits to coincede with anothers.
2. Part of Speech- Adjective
3. Similar Words- Kin, Allied, analogous (these are synonyms)
4. Picture- Seperate
5. Sentence- Cognate grocery stores such as Meijer and Forest Hills Foods carry many of the same products.

Derivative-
1. Description- Something that is taken or passed on from one to another. This varies greatly and can be things such as recessive traits or Musical capability.
2. Part of speech- Adjective
3. Similar Words- descendant, heir, byproduct (these are synonyms)
4. picture- Seperate
5. Sentence- My fathers scientific knowledge would have been more useful to the offspring if it was derivative.

Diminutive-
1. Description- A microscopic size. Being extremely unimportant or insignificant.
2. Part of Speech- Adjective
3. Similar Words- minute, miniature, miniscule (These are synonyms)
4. Picture- Seperate
5. Sentence- The notes on the board were in a diminutive state when my teacher misplaced her glasses.

Inflection-
1. Description- To change the form of something. This alteration is common when dealing with tone, however also can apply to other things.
2. Part Of Speech- Noun
3. Similar Words- Reflection, Infection, deflection ( These are similar etymological words)
4. Picture- Seperate
5. Sentence- Mrs. Warren, my choir director, creates inflection in my tone every day by choosing alternate musical pieces.

Orthography-
1. Description- The study of spelling and words being correctly spelled. This also includes the study of symbolic words.
2. Part of Speech- Noun
3. Similar Words- Colloquially, orthographist, language (These are synonyms)
4. Picture- Seperate
5. Sentence- Due to the fact that my brother failed all of his spelling tests in elementary school, Orthography would not be a smart career choice.
