1. Cognate
  • Description: When things that are closely related or similar.
  • Part: Adjective

  • Related: Connected (Synonym) Alike (Synonym) Different (Antonym)
  • Sentence: They may have been brothers, but the boys did not have cognate behaviors.




2. Derivative
  • Description: Something that branches off of, or comes from some source
  • Part: Noun/Adjective
  • Related: Descendant (Synonym) Secondary (Synonym) Original (Antonym)

  • Sentence: I am the derivative of an Irish father, and German mother.





3. Diminutive
  • Description: Something that is seen as insignificant or tiny.

  • Part: Adjective
  • Related: Small (Synonym) Minor (Synonym) Large (Antonym)

  • Sentence: The diminutive bugs could squeeze through cracks in the wall.

4. Inflection
  • Description: An alteration or change, usually in a persons tone/voice.

  • Part: Noun

  • Related: Adjustment (Synonym) Change (Synonym) Steady (Antonym)

  • Sentence: The sudden inflection in his voice, showed he was excited.

5. Orthography
  • Description: Spelling or making words using letters.

  • Part: Noun

  • Related: Spelling (Synonym) Grammar (Synonym) Language (Synonym)

  • Sentence: He showed excellent orthography skills on his spelling tests.
